Rotary’s theme is to Create Hope in the World. A few months ago, GOC Member Wendie Selene was isolated and struggling to find a place that she belonged. Her anxiety and isolation created barriers. Then she found the GOC. At the GOC she found a community that supports her and the opportunity to participate in meaningful work. Working side-by-side with other Members and staff at the GOC, Wendie has made great strides. When she first came to us, she was fearful even to have her picture taken. Today, she helped to create this post about her first Rotary experience.

Wendie’s father and grandfather were Rotarians in Iowa. Today she experienced Rotary first hand. She was energized and excited to have this opportunity. Wendie helped set up for our weekly lunch and even spoke with the Rotarians, sharing her experience. We are proud of Wendie. For GOC Members the Clubhouse is not the final destination. Getting back out into the community is the final destination. Rotary provides a safe space for Members to share their story in the community and start getting back out there.
